The HeART of Humility

Apollos must have had left Jerusalem before the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is assumed because by the time Priscilla and Aquila had caught up to him, he had only been familiar with the baptism of John.

However, Luke tells us (Acts 18:24) that this man Apollos was an eloquent (intellectual) man, and he was mighty in the scripture. Which say’s to me that he had good enough reason to be prideful in his knowledge of scripture. In fact, he wouldn’t be the first Jew filled with knowledge of the scripture to reject the whole truth.

However, when he was introduced to the rest of the truth by Priscilla and Aquila there seemed to be no problem with him accepting it.

This tells me that Apollos had much more than knowledge of scripture. Apollos had something many believers lack today, that being the precious gift of humility.

Humility in it’s power allows for us to put that which we think we know aside, in order to gain the truth.

Humility allowed for Peter, as he is confronted by Paul to say yes you are right and I am wrong.

Humility is what enabled Saul as he is on the road to Damascus to fall to the ground and say, “Who are You, Lord?”.

In fact, it was humility that Jesus displayed at Jacobs well by asking a Samaritan woman for a drink”.

After humbly receiving his correction, Apollos eagerly went on preaching the full truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He embraced truth, by embracing correction.

We as followers must embrace the fact that in order to be teachers/disciples of Christ we have to maintain an open heart to correction.

Praise GOD for correction!

Proverbs 15:32- Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.
