At The Feet Of Her Jesus

At The Feet Of Her Jesus

I love the story of Mary at the feet of Jesus found in Luke 10: 38-42 for many reasons. Considering the fact that this position in the 1st century was reserved for Jewish men only especially when teaching was involved. Not only did that break the norm but the obvious fact that many woman of the first century was recognized for their faith at all. However, fulfilling both roles we find Mary.

Now it’d be very easy to pick her decision making apart and come up with questions sort of like her sister Martha did as she expected Mary to be alongside of her, or like Judas (the betrayer) did as he expected Mary to sell her expensive perfume instead of using it on the Lord. But, I think if we followed in their examples we’d miss something so significant. That being, what it means to choose FAITH.

Mary’s decision in this short section teaches us the importance of seeking to hear the words of Jesus despite distractions. She, unlike her sister Martha, put those things on hold in order to seek the words of the Lord. She definitely had another job to do, she definitely had her sister waiting on her, but Mary chose the good part according to Jesus in (v.42).

How about you? What are your distractions? Are they business like Martha, is fear a distraction, are maybe it the worry about tomorrow, is it the cover-19 virus? Whatever it may be I dare you to choose the feet of Jesus over them.

Be Blessed
