The Christian Response: To Social Distancing
I have heard many responses recently to how Christians today should respond to the new governmental recommendation of social distancing. Some of them as extreme as “this is an attack on the church and we should not submit”. If you are one who has adopted this perspective. I’d encourage you to drop your S-W-O-R-D and pick up your W-O-R-D and first consider this list.
- 1st century church attacks were not for the benefit of the church, but was to destroy its teachings Acts 5:38.
- 1st century church attacks sometimes consisted of Christians being drug out of homes because of their beliefs Acts 17:1-16.
- 1st century church attacks caused many early Christians jail time Acts 16:23.
- Some were killed because of their faith Acts 7:59; Acts 12:1-2.
- Some were brutally beaten Acts 16:22.
And the list goes on. However, I hope that it is obvious that no recommendation but in place for your good and the good of your neighbor is an attack against the church.
Therefore, we are called to respond in submission according to Romans 12:1-2.
- It is in submission God has granted us wisdom in creative ways to still be social. We have social media, we have video chatting we have phones etc.
- We have vehicles, to do drive by visits.
- We can write letters, we can send gifts. There are abundant ways we can cope.
- My challenge to you is that in this time of social distancing that you would find ways to be creative, yet submissive to the governmental recommendation. write down your ideas and share them with fellow believers who are struggling to cope.
Be Blessed!
